Amy Winehouse ovlivnila novinku The Libertines, říká Pete Doherty
Winehouse passed away in July 2011 at the age of 27. She had been a close friend of Libertines frontman Pete Doherty. With the band recently recording their first album in over a decade in Thailand, Doherty and Barat have unveiled further details about the release. Speaking in this week’s print issue of NME, available digitally and on news stands now, Doherty revealed that the band stuck a picture of Winehouse to the wall while they were recording.
„The studio was quite sparsely decorated, but we did have a little NME front cover of Amy Winehouse over the mixing desk the whole time,“ Doherty said. „The one constant in the mixing room, apart from John Hassall, who was always there from dawn to dusk, was the picture of Amy.“
He added: „She was never a massive fan of my songwriting, or at least she never admitted to it! She was a bit of a harsh critic, but in a lot of ways we were kindred spirits, and all the boys loved her. She was quite inspirational as well, because while she was critical, that’s because she had very high standards.“
Pete Doherty unveiled a Amy Winehouse tribute single, titled ‚Flags Of The Old Regime‘, in January. The song was written by Doherty for the late Winehouse, with all proceeds of the single going towards the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which aims to give young people a better understanding of drug and alcohol misuse. Elsewhere in the NME interview, the band discuss experimenting with their signature sound on the upcoming LP, which will include the use of synths. Drummer Gary Powell said: „I would have been really, really pissed off if we’d come back with a new album full of old stuff… The last thing I wanted us to do was sound like we were back in 2004“.
The Libertines are expected to release the follow-up to their 2004 self-titled second album later this year. Ahead of the album’s release, The Libertines have also been confirmed as the headliners for both T In The Park and the Reading And Leeds festivals this summer.
